![]() By far the scariest part of this low-budget, sweaty, backwoods horror film is how sick it makes you feel. The slow shots of dirty bones, long talks about slaughtering animals, and those same discussions of cruelty acted out upon the unfortunate travelers by leatherface and his family. All of it detailed enough to turn a stomach. Its bewildering that a group of people would commit so thoroughly to bringing this horrific tale to life. A film with no purpose beyond bringing evil to life in its different forms. The cast must have gone through hell in that hot and humid, old house and those dark fields. Yet, every aspect of this filmmaking is incredible and is still being imitated today just in lesser quality. You can't create this level of simple, honest horror anymore. We’ll forever have this sickening gem but that is all this franchise amounts to in quality. The future entries abandoned atmosphere for more pointless gore.

![]() "Bad luck isn't brought by broken mirrors, but by broken minds." In the 70's and 80's Italian horror film director Dario Argento created a sub-genre know as giallo. This 20th century style has been an influence in the genre til today; combining elements of a slasher, psychological thriller, sexploitation, and often supernatural elements. "SUSPIRIA" is all of these and more tightly packed into a 90 minute runtime. I really enjoyed the whole movie. The plot's mystery is suspenseful, tied in with a genius soundtrack and gorgeous, dark cinematography- I was holding my breathe the whole film. Very impressed by the use of shadows and neon lighting, which mimic the mood of each scene. Often the main focal point of a shot is a shadow. This is definitely a film to watch, or rewatch, especially for those interested in the 2018 reboot. ![]() "I don't think there's one word that can describe a man's life." Citizen Kane is a film I've been meaning to watch since I was thirteen and first fell in love with Cinema. The appreciation I've received as a critic finally drove me to crossing this one off my list. I couldn't be happier. At first this movie is about the dying words of a rich man who had everything but love. He spends his time making his friends love him and his wealth on loving himself. His mistakes catch up with him and he's ultimately left to die alone in his estate big enough for a small city. With further inspection its possible to see traces of the life of Orson Welle's, the director and star, scattered throughout the days of Charles Foster Kane. |
