"I have the requisite experience and insight to aver that you are and always have been penis cancer in human form."

I don't think I've ever used instant classic to describe a movie till I saw this gem for a second time. I also think director Alexander Payne knew he had something special, because he even presents his film like a classic with the old Miramax intro leading into the film. There's a lot to love about Paul, Angus, and Mary. 3 individuals who have all suffered heartbreak in their own way, some much more recent than others with Mary having just lost her son to Vietnam, spend their Christmas vacation alone together... it's not a Christmas movie with many colorful scenes or a blooming romance and yet it's my favorite. You can call me a masochistic if you want, but 130 minutes with these folks lifts my spirits much more than any other Christmas movie I can think of. There's something so touching and real about these characters. Let's not forget it's also gut wrenchingly funny. Paul Giamatti deliver's his best performance, but I have not seen Sideways yet, so we'll see how this statement ages. It's a Christmas movie that will make you cry. You'll hold your loved ones a little bit tighter after. It will help you remember to relish in the good times. We could all use that reminder every now and then.
