News of the World (2020)

Cinematographer Dariusz Wolski's heartfelt western setting sparks new emotion in the otherwise boring browns and blues of the western plains. This is the first thing I noticed about News of the World. It's beautiful to watch and often stirs emotions without any words. Tom Hanks and co-star Helena Zengel are a perfect match. Both of them the silent but strong type and both delivering honest performances that will make you cry. Of course, none of this would have been accomplished if it weren't for the novel by Paulette Jiles and director Paul Greengrass who brought it all together. It's a story worth watching (or reading) and possibly all a ruse to get Hanks back on screen with another character called Captain. If you want an excuse to go to the theaters, this is a solid one. Will it stand the test of time? I'm not counting on it.
