This is one of the first Polish films I've ever seen, which is sad to admit considering my last name is of Polish decent. Wildly enough, it's also one of the best movies I've seen in 2020 so far. It's not quite as powerful as Schrader's 'First Reformed' but its story about a juvenile delinquent posing as a Father and taking over a small towns church, is both riveting and emotional. Lead actor Bartosz Bielenia is phenomenal. He's able to fully deliver a heavily contrasting character, who's tender and loving one moment and in the next breath beating the living shit out of his opponent. Despite some inconsistency in the script, Bielenia is able to fully invest the audience in his story. Will he be able to actually become a priest? Is he simply fronting and will all this love be for nothing? Will he live? More importantly though this film poses questions against the catholic system and against the people who use this system to employ hate and selfishness. Do yourself a favor and watch this movie. Its available on Amazon.
