REVIEW: THE LIGHTHOUSE

Egger's stroke of brilliance, 'The Lighthouse,' is cinematic pleasure in it's most enigmatic form. An ode conjured in the likes of Kubrick's masterpiece, '2001: A Space Odyssey.' Before I become distracted I must respect both Willem Dofoe and Robert Pattinson. The film is constructed on their performances. Without their wildly committed characters, this film would simply be a bunch of non-sense. The simplest description of this movie is two sailors going crazy during a long storm. Yet, within this underwhelming synopsis lies dark mystery, greek mythology, and much more to be interpreted with many viewings. The black and white perspective, as well as the score, works wonderfully in creating a tense atmosphere thats gripping til the end. A fantastic film and a must watch for 2019.
