REVIEW: BRIGHTBURN

My excitement for "Brightburn" was predicated on the concept of an anti-superhero movie following a young and villainous Superman-like protagonist. The experience though, unfolds as a silly B-movie horror film with terrible writing and the shallowest of characters. After realizing this during the film, I figured it could make-up for its faults with blood and adrenaline. It does not accomplish this. The budget stretches thin and it's apparent they didn't have much more than is presented in the trailer. Brightburn is both a bad supervillain movie and a terrible horror movie. I'm sure people will disagree with me here. The film doesn't present many issues in sound design or camera-work. Besides doing just enough to fight for the weekend box office this movie won't be remembered.

REVIEW: PET SEMATARY

Pet Sematary is just plain bad. Despite having strong source material and decent cinematography (sometimes), this deadbeat horror film delivers lackluster thrills and exceptionally predictable turns (roundabouts). The amount of quality horror films releasing the past several years does not help its case. My theater was packed but half the crowd was asleep halfway into the runtime, which felt more like a prison sentence. Stick to the original since it has an excuse for being cheesy.

REVIEW: GLASS

The first half of Glass is full of potential and a few genuinely great moments featuring a McAvoy at the top of his game. Unfortunately, M. Night's script starts to become weighed down by bad writing and an uninspired Bruce Willis. The second half of the film is awful. Terrible enough to make you question why the hell you were excited for this fart of a conclusion. All potential is wasted, trashed and I cannot fathom forgiving M. Night anytime soon. 2019 is off to a rocky start.
