Hereditary practices the same horrific meditations as classic horrors such as Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist. Favoring depth of plot and characters over shock value returns favorably with a slow-burning build to a freak-show climax. The performances are the scariest part of the film- if the true lore behind the possessions don't creep you out enough. Toni Collette will make every selfish person appreciate their mother for not being... you just have to watch this. Don't expect a typical horror-show. There is something darker here.
