American Animals is not a great heist film. Instead, its a documentary style narration of the laziest and silliest robbery in American history. The biggest pull this script has is that it really is unfortunate, which makes this journey more introspective than exciting. It's more of a late coming-of-age film than a thriller. The movie is full of visual film references and overall looks pretty great. Though, I found the snippets of interviews with the real-life perpetrators to be incomplete. It didn't provide the necessary character build needed for the films underwhelming climax.
