"Wondering if you're happy is a great shortcut to just being depressed."

At the heart of this indie film about a dysfunctional household in the late 70's is it's beautiful characters. Each one of them perfectly flawed and different. Their attitudes changing like the wind. There's not much structure to this story and it has a lot to say, as it bounces from character to character, scene by scene.  It's free flowing script replicating the disorderliness of life itself. I enjoyed every perspective and each performance is powerful in it's own right. I was never sure where the film was headed and that's why it's so damn good. In the end you're left with a bittersweet goodbye. Wishing you'd have more time with it's colorful band of misfits.

"Not everything that moves, breathes, and talks is alive."
The Wailing is by far the best horror movie of 2016, though it's a psychological horror film leaving out jump scares for a deeper freight. It will most likely be remembered as one of the best horror's of the decade. I am years late to this flick but it was complete enjoyment as I discovered this dark and mysterious story. The two and a half-hour run-time went by surprisingly quick. There are many elements to this movie, which all slowly-burn into this gumbo plot of characters and motives. A second watch will be necessary as there's many plot-lines I want to watch more closely. There's also a fair bit of goofy humor that keeps a lighthearted mood for the first-half of the film. Any fan of horror must watch this movie.

"People love what other people are passionate about."

I've always had a man crush on Ryan Gosling ever since Drive. With La La Land's success its clear he can be more than the silent white knight or lovable hunk. La La Land holds a special place in 2016's film. It's a beautiful take on Hollywood's antique musicals featuring dazzling chemistry and performances from its two leads. The camera work is just incredible and the vibrancy of the music and it's cast really push this musical to incredible heights.
