Inherent Vice is exactly what you'd expect from Paul Thomas Anderson's attempt to tackle the world of stoners, surfers, and underachievers like Doc Sportello (Phoenix). Sportello never reacts like you'd expect because he's always too stoned. Just like the film itself seems to be. It makes you feel high experiencing it and if you're already high - well - you're one step closer to grasping this strange hippie mystery. It's fun to watch because like all of Anderson's works it's full of colorful characters. The story tackles the time period, politics, and paraphernalia with such hazy wonder and sozzled gusto that it's unwatchable for anyone unaccustomed to this world. Anderson doesn't care though and every actor gives it there all. Phoenix especially is fantastically fun.

"There are no two words in the English language more harmful than 'good job'." Whiplash is emotionally triumphant and musically daring. Its the type of movie that ends with no one getting up to leave- leaving its audience bewildered by such a spectacle of power. The power of the music. The beauty of the performances. A message that's been captured in film perfection. Damien Chazelle has got what Hollywood's been missing. I don't have a single complaint about this film and anyone who does deserves to have an argument with Simmons nerve-wracking portrayal of Terence Fletcher. "Love is the one thing that transcends time and space." Christopher Nolan's powerhouse science fiction film- Interstellar, is about an adventure to save mankind through inter-dimensional space travel. Nolan has craft a brilliant script that pairs perfectly with Hans Zimmer's superb soundtrack. Every single actor gives a performance to match. The most breath-taking part of this film though are the outstanding next-generation visuals. All the aspects of this film create a thought-provoking sci-fi adventure, which no one is likely to forget. "Keep your hands off my lobby boy!" The Grand Budapest Hotel is Wes Anderson's hilarious collaboration of style, cameos, and heartfelt writing. Anderson's quirky style is so charming its naturally irresistible. His filming style is so graceful and defined that this movie experience will go down as a masterpiece. Budapest is by far his craziest work-of-art yet. "Lesley: I wish I had more self-respect. Laura: You're an actress." Out of nowhere Birdman soars. I really didn't see this coming. In the beginning, we have a humorous 4th wall breaking link to actor Michael Keaton's career. Next a script that's witty and dark but is written to puncture your soul with a profound punch to the "average film-goers" gut. Beautifully mixed in is an absolutely damned awesome performance by Keaton, Norton, and everyone else who showed up on screen. The cherry on top is Inarritu's flawless direction. The end may unsettle you but what's the point anyway? This film was made to make fun of what viewers want and stress the importance of art and real creativity. |
