Lost In Translation (2003)

​"I'm just completely lost."
This is one of those rare films that manages to utilize limited resources and a small cast while being emotionally captivating and unforgettable. I've watched it many times and each time I find something new that makes me smile, laugh, or cry. It's about a washed up actor struggling with depression as he does a commercial gig in Japan both physically and emotionally distant from his wife and family. He meets a young girl, who's also emotionally conflicted two years into a marriage and recently graduated. Both are stuck in the same hotel in Japan and a relationship sparks between them. I think everyone can connect to these characters in some way; the feeling of being alone in the world, of having no purpose, the butterflies during intimate moments, saying goodbye to someone you love. There's vivid emotion displayed by our talented performers, who manage to elevate this great script to the perfect place. My favorite Scarlett Johansson performance, who was only 17 when they began filming. Bill Murray is incredible as always. A must watch.
