Can the pain of old love be forgotten? And can it be done through a medical procedure? These are a few of the questions brought to light in writer Charlie Kaufman's quirky sci-fi romance film starring Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet. This offbeat, weird, and often hard to follow story about a couple who choose to forget each other is a spectacular showcase of talent for it's actors and writers. Kaufman's narrative is uniquely tailored to make the journey through protagonists Joel's subconscious a rich experience developing it's characters through a mirage of memories, chronologically misplaced, and scattered (just as Joel himself is). While at first disorienting, the story unfolds beautifully as we fall in love with this couple through their best and worst moments. Resulting in Jim Carrey's best performance and one of the most original movies I've ever seen.
