Finding redemption on the road to hell. There are not many films this great and terrible at the same time. Accomplished director Werner Herzog heads to New Orleans with Nicolas Cage and a bunch of cocaine, heroin, and a colorful supporting cast. In the hands of any other creator, this would have been nearly unwatchable. Yet, Herzog and Cage deliver a delightfully entertaining road to hell experience with the only connection to it's 1993 predecessor being its name and producer. It's a wild, wacky, drug induced trip that will make you cringe, laugh, and contemplate what the hell you just watched. That's exactly why it's so much fun. Living in Louisiana and being so close to New Orleans, I was impressed with the presentation of the city. Herzog spends no time glorifying any part of it but instead builds a very relatable atmosphere. It's obvious he's spent some time in the infamous city and that's appreciated. Anyone blessed to have seen this film can bear witness to the unforgettable experience that it is.
